War Poets Association AGM 24th July 2005 (at 11.30am) and Visit to Julian Grenfell Exhibition

May 16, 2005

The War Poets Association will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Taplow Court, Buckinghamshire on Sunday, 24th July 2005 by kind permission of SGI-UK, the present owners of the house which was the childhood and family home of First World War soldier-poet Julian Grenfell.

Taplow Court

An exhibition organized by SGI-UK, ‘Julian Grenfell Soldier-Poet 1888 – 1915’ will be open at Taplow Court during the afternoon. In addition, two performances of ‘Love and War: a programme of songs celebrating love and a selection of women poets’ thoughts on being parted from their men’ will take place in the house, at 3.00pm and 4.15pm. Both performances will take place in the main house and last 20 minutes.

The WPA’s AGM will start at 11.30am and probably take no longer than one hour. By kind invitation of SGI-UK, WPA members and their guests will be able to view the Julian Grenfell exhibition from 1.45pm, to give a ‘head start’ before the general public is admitted from 2.00pm. However, the exhibition will remain open until 5.30pm, so there should be plenty of time to return if it becomes crowded. For lunch, WPA members and their guests are invited to picnic in the beautiful grounds of Taplow Court, overlooking the Thames (bring you own food and refreshments), or make their own arrangements to lunch at local pubs, restaurants or hotels. Car parking will be available at Taplow Court. The house, grounds and exhibition will close at 5.30pm.

If you plan to attend the AGM, please e-mail Patrick Villa at agm@warpoets.org, telephone +44 (0)1275 376916 or write to him at The War Poets Association, Veale Wasbrough (DBMW), Orchard Court, Orchard Lane, Bristol, BS1 5WS, UK, so that he can arrange for you to receive a ticket for early admission to the house and grounds. Those not planning to attend the AGM who would nevertheless like to visit the house and grounds in the afternoon should please click here for admission details.
